In 2015, we have received a request from Chimelong (a comprehensive zoo in the Guangdong Province) to send back two rhinos from Johannesburg (JNB), South Africa to Guangzhou (CAN), China. To make it happen, we chartered this project. The whole plane is only loaded with these two rhinos so we can focus on attending to them.
It was a late-night flight. In order to handle the shipment more smoothly and avoid any unexpected accident, we got in touch with the quarantine department, customs office, and the local veterinarian in advance. All parties were waiting at the airside so the moment the plane is landed, they can do their jobs and shorten the time as much as possible. Because the rhinos might be frightened coming to a new place, and the best way to make sure the rhinos’ good health is to send them to the zoo as soon as possible where professionals are in range.
As a result of the team effort, we managed to send the rhinos to the zoo within 2 hours after the plane was landed.
